Angels Arise...

There are certain occasions and traditions during the holiday season that encompass the joy and cheer that only Christmas can bring. From Sleigh Rides, to Jingle Bells and Sugar Plums to Cinnamon Spice, we all have our "somethings special" this time of year. Now while most may have eagerly awaited watching classics like Charlie Brown and Frosty the Snowman, my calendar is marked annually for what I consider the show to outshine all shows, a theatrical and magical spectacular that is years in the making, a showcase of fashions most beautiful and untouchable... The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show! I have never been able to decide whether it is the other worldly costumes or the exquisitely imaginative backdrops, but for one hour, every year, my eyes go unpeeled from the t.v. screen as Heidi, Alessandra, Gisele and Miranda sashay their way down the greatest runway in the world! Rise and shine angels, your audience awaits...

Fashion Will Speak...

One of the most intriguing components of fashion is its mystifying ability to speak and convey without any sound. In a split second, a properly chosen outfit is able to communicate a whole story without a single word spoken. Any emotion, any narration is possible. From a desolate sadness to theatrical exhilaration, fashion has no boundaries to the feelings it can generate. In keeping with the theme of theatrical, I was pleasantly surprised and amused when I fell upon the slideshow of a performer, whom I rarely acknowledged as a fashion icon, but couldn’t help but keep a smile from my face. Sometimes the emotional overload of fashion deserves a well sought after breather. Pop Princess, Katy Perry, has conscientiously made it her duty to re-invent herself in ever performance and appearance she makes. Her costumes are whimsical, imaginative, nonconforming and most importantly engaging. From Christmas Trees to Elvis and Birthday Cakes to Baby Dolls, she is living in a world of unusual characters but skilfully allowing her audience to do so as well!

Fashion is Passion...

There is something undeniably intriguing about the notion of a “guilty pleasure”. Two words that are so contradictory yet so perfectly married in the language of our most coveted addictions, secrets and loves. They can exist in any size, shape and color. They can be imagined, concocted, restricted or conceived. But regardless of their manner of existence, these “guilty pleasures” are often the backbone of our wildest dreams and greatest ambitions.
My guilty pleasure... is FASHION. The way it feels, the way it looks, the way it sparkles, drapes and cascades. It is an entity unto itself and an escape from reality where my most impossible fantasies can exist. What may have once started as an innocent crush has grown into a self confessed, and somewhat questionable, yet unavoidable and oh so magical obsession!
The definitions of Fashion are endless, the possibilities reach past infinity. It can evoke emotions of power, passion, envy, courage, beauty and fear. It’s abilities to instantaneously transform you from invisible to distinguishable make it impossible to disregard. It is an art form and an identity and regardless of it being a “guilty pleasure”, or simply a rationale to my sanity, it is a representation and a soul that resides within me. As Coco Chanel once said, “It is the unseen, unforgettable, ultimate accessory of fashion that heralds your arrival and prolongs your departure.” So surrender and initiate, true Fashion comes from within...
